台湾での旅

　私は今回初めて台湾に行きました。そこで驚いたことや面白いと思ったことがたくさんありました。まず初めに、多くの台湾人がバイクを使っているということです。彼らがバイクを自転車の様に、道沿いに駐車しているとこに違和感を覚えました。次に、地下鉄では切符ではなく、コインを使用していることです。コインを使用することにより、環境にやさしいので、私はこのアイディアに関心しました。最後に、品物がとても安く、服を六枚とお土産をいくつか買っても一万円もしないということです。

　私が一番楽しんだことは、夜市に行くことです。夜遅く遊んだことがない私にとって、新しい経験でした。服やアクセサリーなどが色々売っていて、夜市は女の子にとって天国だと感じました。しかし、臭豆腐のにおいは耐えられませんでした。

ホームステイ

　私は正直、ホームステイのことが不安でした。初めてではなかったのですが、ホストの家族がまったく英語が話せないと思ったからです。しかし実際にそうではく、私のホストイヴは英語話せるし、両親が話せなくても身振り手振りで会話することができました。イヴの母親は優しく、とても面倒のいい人でした。家では暖かく歓迎してくれて、自分の子供の様に面倒を見てくれました。イヴもまた面倒のいい人でした。いつも私に何がしたいかとか、何が食べたいかなどを聞いてくれました。あと彼女は、台湾の文化をよく教えてくれました。例えば、赤という色は運の象徴などです。そのため、中国の伝統の服が赤なのだそうです。また、新年には赤い紙に文字を書いて壁に貼るそうです。

　イヴとはとても楽しい時間を過ごしました。私たちは延々と話しました。彼女は自分の文化について話し、イヴが日本に興味があるということで、私は日本の文化を教えました。彼女は私を夜市やデパートなど様々なところに連れて行ってくれました。五日間で私たちは仲良くなり、私はこれからも彼女と連絡をとって、また会えることを願っています。

プレゼンテーションについて

　私たちはプレゼンテーションの準備をするのに二日間しかなく、完成しないのではないかと心配でした。一日目は、もうテーマが決まっていても、何から始めればいいか分かりませんでした。けれども、時間が経つにつれて、私たちはだんだん分かるようになり、進むことができました。しかし私たちは台湾のメンバーと相談せずに日本人のメンバーだけでプレゼンテーションを進めていました。だから、二日目は英語だけで話すことにし、ひとつのグループとして取り組むことに決めました。そして、私たちはパワーポイントと台本を時間内に完成することができました。

　プレゼンテーションの日、私たちは納得いくまで何度も練習しました。しかし、本番では緊張のせいか、みんな所々台詞を忘れてしました。私は、ステージの裏では焦っていて、ステージの上では頭が真っ白でした。プレゼンテーションが終わると、絶望のため二、三人泣いてしました。

　プレゼンテーションが上手くいかなかったとしても、私たちはいい経験をしたと思います。それは、外国人と協力することができたことです。私はASEPに参加できてよかったと思います。

My trip in Taiwan

Nanzan Kokusai High School

              It was the first time for me to visit Taiwan and there were many things that I found interesting or surprising. First of all, many people use motorbikes for transport. It was funny for me to see so many Taiwanese people parking their bikes on the streets. Secondly, for the underground trains, they use coins instead of tickets. I was impressed with this idea because it is good for the environment. Thirdly, all the things are so cheap that even if I buy six clothes and some souvenirs, it will only take about 9,000 yen!

The thing that I enjoyed the most was to go to the night market. As I never go out at night to play, it was a new experience for me. Everywhere you go, many clothes and jewelries are sold and I think it is a paradise for girls. Unfortunately, what I couldn’t stand was the smell of stinky tofu.

Homestay

 To tell the truth, I was a little worried about the homestay. Not because it was the first time for me, but because I thought that the whole family couldn’t speak English. But I was wrong. My host student who was called Eve, spoke English well and even if her parents couldn’t, we used gestures to communicate. Also, her mother was very kind and caring. She made me very welcome when I entered their house and took care of me just as if I were her own child. Eve too was caring like her mother. She would always ask what I wanted to eat or do. She also told me many things about Taiwan and its culture. For example, red is a symbol of luck and that is why their national dress is red. In addition, on New Year’s Day, they write some words on red paper and hang them on the wall.

With Eve, I had a great time. We talked endlessly. She told me of her culture and as she was very interested in Japan, I told her all I knew about our culture. She took me to many places such as the night market, department stores and so on. In five days, we were able to become good friends and I would like to continue having contact with her, hoping to meet her again.

Our Presentation

 For the presentation, we only had two days to prepare it and I was worried that we would never finish it. On the first day, even if we already decided on the theme, we didn’t know how to start it. But as time passed, we gradually started to get a clear picture of what we wanted to do and were able to proceed. However, we started the presentation only with the Japanese members. We were too into our work that we only talked in Japanese without discussing with the Taiwanese members. So on the second day, we decided to speak only in English and work as a group. This succeeded very well. As a result, we were able to finish the power point and the scripts in time.

On the day of the presentation, we said our lines many times and rehearsed until we were satisfied. However, when we stood on stage, all the members were too nervous that we forgot our lines or hesitated. For me, I was panicking behind the curtains and on stage, my head was all blank. Afterwards, some were in despair while others cried.

I think that even though our presentation didn’t go smoothly, we had a great experience which is to work with people of a different country. I am really happy to have participated in ASEP.
