忘れられない台湾での経験

　今回、この事業に参加させていただき一番実感したことは、外国の人とコミュニケーションをとり国際社会の中で生きていくとき一番大切なのは、語学力ではなく、「もっと自分の思いを伝えたい」「コミュニケーションをとりたい」「相手のことを知りたい」などといった熱意や姿勢を持つことだ、ということです。台湾の学生からは、「日本のことを知りたい。日本語をもっと上手に話せるようになりたい」という熱意を感じました。たくさんの人が積極的に話しかけてきてくれて、たくさんの友達ができました。ある日、ホストマザーが「日本のほとんどの学生は英語で話すことを恐れるのに、あなたは恐れずに積極的に話せているわ。あなたの英語はとても上手よ。」と言って下さいました。私はそれを聞いたとき、とてもうれしかったです。

　この事業のメインイベントである英語のプレゼンは、多くの方に支えられているので、プレッシャーも大きく、緊張しました。辛いときもありましたが、みんなが励ましてくれたので、チームの人と一緒に練習を大変頑張りました。その成果がプラチナ賞受賞という結果となったときには、今までにない達成感と感動を味わいました。私は一生この経験を忘れません。しかし、私は、自分の英語が上手でないことも実感したので、もっと英語の学習に力を入れていこうと思います。

最後になりましたが、この事業を支援して下さった皆様本当にありがとうございました。

I’ll never forget this experience in Taiwan

What I have learned from ASEP 2009 is that the most important thing is not our linguistic ability but our enthusiasm to communicate with foreigners. The students I met in Taiwan were very much devoted to studying Japanese language and learning Japanese culture. Many of them spoke to me in Japanese, and I made many friends there. I think they really like Japanese culture. One day, my host mother said to me, “Most Japanese students are afraid of speaking English, but you’re not. You are positive about speaking English and your English is good.” I was very happy to hear it.

As for the presentation, the main event of this program, I felt a lot of pressure and became very nervous because we were supported by a lot of people and I thought we should get a good result. Sometimes I felt I couldn’t do any more, but many people cheered me and I practiced very hard with my teammates. So I was very happy when we got the platinum prize. I’ll never forget this experience. But, I also realized my English is not good, so I’ve decided to study English harder. Lastly, please allow me to express a word of thanks to those who supported the program. “謝謝”
