For us, collaboration means・・・・
Kansai University, Hiroaki Hara
~Introduction~
First of all, I really appreciate the kindness and the hospitality of the students and the teachers of ISU University. Thanks to them, we could have the great and fruitful time. The year 2009 ended with the end of ASEP. I’m writing this report, thinking back fondly on the- flashed- by- five- day. I’d like to keep on writing this report, focusing on what I thought and felt through ASEP, especially on a presentation work.
~Making a presentation~
I strongly think that what are important in making a presentation jointly are to have the flexibility so that we can deal with things according to the situations. Why I think so is because of two reasons. The first wall we faced was that we couldn’t get in touch with and have an enough talk before seeing in person. Therefore, we decide to make a presentation by our selves. That is, we got the first day of ASEP without having even the common theme of the presentation. That is the second wall we faced, because they also almost finished their work; thus we faced the tough situation where we had to make a new presentation from the two almost finished ones. We tried to pick up the same contents at first, but there were so few we had in common that the discussion remained as far apart as ever. Thus, I proposed we adopt our presentation or theirs and we ended up adopting ours by my saying that, ‘ I see your point, but yours is so complicated that it’s kind of like tough for the audience to understand, because they are mainly high school students. And also your conclusion is so obscure that people won’t be able to figure out your point’.
~what is collaboration? ~
Variety of things happens in the process of starting from the situation where we don’t even know names with each other and finishing a presentation. We often confront many obstacles. What is important here is I think to have, as I said above, to have the flexibility ―always see from various perspectives and not stick around one thing―. In that sense, we could do well. Although the work was not easy, the accomplishment we got after the presentation was super great and I think it is one of the good things of ASEP that we can share that feeling with the members.
