Asian Student Exchange Program (ASEP 2014)

Asian Student Exchange Program has been created in the year 2000 by Advanced Joint English Telecommunication (AJET), which is supported by Ministry of Education. Later, Kaohsiung Board of Education has taken over and involved all the participants local schools and schools from Asia countries. This year, the program is enlarged to Asia-Pacific countries.

ASEP2014 intends to achieve the best of the following aspects.

A.  Education

The ASEP program is aimed to develop the students multiple intelligences. It enables students to learn by doing. Students can construct their own projects and apply knowledge. They go through the process of group discussion, research activities and presentation. Consequently, they form the team spirit and acquire the abilities to solve the problems.

B. Culture

Through the cooperation of students from Asian-Pacific countries, students can understand the cultural content of international partners, enhance their own knowledge and acquaint themselves with each others culture. For local students, they can assist international partners to know Kaohsiung and Taiwan well.

C. Foreign Language Learning

English is the basic communication channel of ASEP. Students can practice listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. Besides, they could learn the languages of other countries like Japanese, Indonesian and so on when they are engaged in cyber and physical communication.

D. Chinese learning

Since ASEP takes place in Taiwan, where Chinese is the main official language. ASEP is the best opportunity for international students to practice Chinese with native speakers. In this way, those local students who are not good at English can also involve in the communication with students from abroad without going overseas.

E. City Culture Exchange

As a counterpart of World Youth Meeting, which takes place in Nagoya, Japan, ASEP always create good environment for students from Asia-Pacific countries to learn about the friendly city of Kaohsiung.

F. Information Communication Technology (ICT)

The exchange through ICT is very important. Video-conferencing, Messaging and even social networking like Facebook enable students across countries to do project-based learning, despite the limits of time and physical space. In fact, ICT provides easy access to each other in the same project.

G. International Buddy Program

From International Collaborative Projects(ICPs) partnership through International Buddy Program between schools (IBPs), ASEP has formed a great platform for sister school relationship. They are engaged in reciprocal activities in regular time of the year.

H. Asian and Australian Learning Circle

Students from Australian are encouraged to join ASEP, so that the importance of Southern Hemisphere is again highlighted. The learning opportunities are expanded and future leadership in the area is cultivated through ASEP.

ASEP is hosted by Kaohsiung Board of Education. The coordinating school is Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung GirlsSenior High School. The following is the list of participating schools.
