I love ASEP!

Wakasa High School

A.N

I learned two things from ASEP2010.

First thing is the importance of making good relation with people. I felt it when we were talking with Sanmin high school students on skype. It was difficult to discuss our presentation on skype. We couldnft set our idea into English well. Sometimes we took it so seriously and Sanmin students asked us, gWhy are you so quiet today? Are you tired?h I felt it was not a good atmosphere. Of course I wanted to make a good presentation, but it was more important to make good relation with Sanmin students.

We had trouble making presentation. We often couldnft proceed with the negotiation well. Maybe Sanmin students were a little impatient because they asked gWhere is teacher?h many times. Sometimes we couldnft agree with their idea, and it was the same condition as them. If we left everything in their hand, it was easy to make presentation. But that dampened the meaning of exchange. It was difficult to reach an understanding. I learned to receive the other partyfs idea. If we donft do this, the relation with them is easy to become bad, and because we received their idea, we could notice that there was a new point of view. We sometimes made ourselves agreeable to each other, and the script which adopted both schoolfs good idea was completed.

Second thing is the greatest pleasure we feel when we could tell our idea or feelings to people. When we practiced the skit part of our presentation, something interesting happened and I couldnft stop laughing. Because it was a very little thing, I thought I couldnft tell its interest to everyone in English. But I explained and everyone understood the reason why I laughed. They sympathized and we laughed together. I donft know why, but I was very happy about it. I felt some distance if countries and languages are different, but I thought we are same high school students. It is difficult to tell our idea in English, but we try to tell that much more, and a listener also try to understand what we want to tell. It was hard, but interesting and good experience. We canft do this with Japanese people because we can understand each other without trouble. Because I went abroad, I could feel it.

I received a warm welcome from my host family. Host mother took me many places every day. Host father sometimes spoke to me in Japanese and always smiled happily. He was very kind. they let me take a shower first, and gave me many presents. They treated me very courteously. Not to be rude, I was careful about my action and manner. One day, father said gYoufre eKawaiif. Your Manner is very good. You have a good education.h I was happy to hear that, and also felt tense because Wakasa high school and my family were judged through my impression. At home, when someone was talking to me, I tried to understand even in Chinese. I studied and tried to talk in Chinese. Everyone was pleased at my greeting in Chinese. Grandfather couldnft speak English, so he and I were very happy to talk in Chinese even my Chinese is poor and I could speak only two or three words. Host family and I made much of each other. They treated me as a real daughter and I appreciated them. Last night, mother and father said, gIf you come to Taiwan again, you can stay with our home. Here is your home.h  Feeling like a real family, I almost cried.
