ASEPに参加する前、私は英語を話すことに苦手意識がありました。しかし、今回の滞在は短いので英語を話すことから逃げないと決めていました。私の英語は完ぺきではないですが、恐れないで話しかけてよかったと思いました。台湾の学生たちの英語は自分たちの英語と差がありましたが、きちんと話を聞いてくれて、とても話しやすかったです。相手を理解しようという気持ちがあれば、英語が完ぺきでなくても交流できると思いました。英語に固執することなく、中国、台湾では、漢字を使っているので、それをノートに書いて交流することもできました。自分たちの名前を中国語の発音で教えてもらったり、日本語の発音で教えてあげたりして、会話が弾んだり、アイスブレイクにもなりました。このことから、私は、「英語は手段である」と思いました。私たちには、英語にはない文化を持っていて、それをシェアするために共通語である英語を使っているだけだと思います。お互いに、英語で説明しなくても漢字を示せば、相手が理解できる言葉などはたくさんありました。これは、英語母語話者の人と話すときにはできない経験だと思いました。

ASEPは、プレゼンテーション力、スピーチ力、英語力、異文化コミュニケーション力など短期間で学べるとてもいい機会でした。そして、たくさんの課題が自分にあることに気づかされました。今回の経験を生かして、次のWYMやASEPに繋がる行動をこれからしたいと思います。

日本に帰ってきた今でも、NFUのみんなやISUのみんなとインターネットでいろいろ情報交換をしています。とても便利ですが、今回の経験から、やはり実際会うこと重要性を感じました。台湾に行く前にメール、SKYPE、MSNなどで交流していても、文だけでは伝わらない部分があると思いました。同じ目標に向かって頑張った、たった5日間で一生の友だちになり得るということを身をもって実感しました。

最後に、私がこのASEPに参加して充実した日々が送れたのも、ISUのみんな、NFUのみんなが私たちをリードしてくれたおかげです。ありがとうございました。

This is the first time to participate in ASEP. I was afraid to talk in English with other English speakers. But, I wanted to change myself. One of my goals for ASEP is that I don’t be afraid to talk in English because we stay only 6days. I think it is short.

After I went to Taiwan, I tried to talk in English with ISU member as much as I can. My English is not perfect yet. But ISU member tried to listen to my English. It made me feel comfortable to talk in English. I think even though English is not perfect, we can still communication in English. Also, I think English is just a tool for us. We have different culture and language. Sometimes we can communicate only using Chinese character because we are Japanese and Chinese who use Chinese character. If I communicate with English speaker, I could not have done this experience.

Through ASEP, I learned presentation skills, speaking skills, English skills and international communication skills. From this experience, I really want to improve those skills more.

After ASEP, we still keep in touch each other by using Internet. I think Internet is very useful right now. But I think the good thing is to meet people in real. I didn’t expect we became precious friends such a short time. Internet is good tool for communicate with people, but I don’t think we can get experience that like we had through ASEP.

Lastly, thank you for all of ISU member and NFU member. I had a good time with you. I never forget this experience.
